Veracode’s Acquisition of Marvin Mobile Security Addresses Security and Privacy Risks Posed by Mobile Apps in a BYOD Environment

Veracode is a provider of automated static and dynamic application security testing software and remediation services. The company has been helping customers secure mobile apps by offering automated vulnerability detection on Android (News - Alert) and iOS platforms.

To enable customers to address their security and privacy concerns more effectively, the company acquired the assets of Marvin Mobile Security.

 “Organizations can quickly gain the intelligence they need to prevent attacks and reduce the risk of information loss that often accompanies an increasingly mobile infrastructure,” Bob Brennan, chief executive officer at Veracode, said in a statement.

The combined technology will equip the enterprise with the necessary intelligence to manage and enforce risk-based mobile app policies within their organization. The acquisition complements Veracode’s mobile offering, which has focused on the security requirements of the mobile app development lifecycle.

App Stores and enterprises will be able to leverage Veracode for vetting mobile apps before accepting them into their technology ecosystem and also integrate this capability with their existing investments in control point technologies such as Mobile Device Management or Mobile Application Management products.

Marvin’s technology performs mobile application testing and returns detailed reports on every aspect of the app’s capabilities and behavior, including malware detection, the potential for data leakage and privacy loss. Marvin’s cloud-based service offers a fast and effective solution for enterprises facing growing security and privacy concerns posed by the expanding Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend.
